Albany fire being probed
Albany Fire Department firefighters battle a blaze Monday afternoon at 826 Dorsett Ave. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

ALBANY, Ga. — Officials are searching for what caused a vacant home in south Albany to catch fire Monday afternoon.
The Albany Fire Department received a call just before 2 p.m. regarding a structural fire at 826 Dorsett Ave.
“We received a call about a small, vacant house with flames coming out of the back,” said Assistant Fire Chief Allen Cravey.
Firefighters found some furniture in the home, but the power to it had been cut off for some time. There did not appear to be any fire victims, Cravey said.
“We have not been able to locate anyone in the structure,” he said at the scene. “We will do another sweep to make sure nobody was inside.”
Albany Police Department vehicles blocked the street as firefighters with two AFD engines fought the blaze.
There were no immediate leads regarding what may have caused the fire. A fire investigator arrived on the scene around 2:20 p.m. as firefighters were hosing down the final remnants of the flames.
