APD probing assaults

ALBANY, Ga. -- The Albany Police Department is looking into a few aggravated assault incidents, and a carjacking, from the weekend.

One of the aggravated assaults victimized seven people, including three juveniles, at 11:25 p.m. Saturday at 2020 S. Madison St.

At the scene, one of the victims stated that a black Chevy Impala passed by her home and the occupants started shooting as she was walking to the garbage can.

In the police report narrative, the victim further stated that there were at least two people in the car traveling north on South Madison. They fired five or six shots at the house.

"One the bullets from the shots fired went through the window in the apartment and struck the wall leaving a mark in the wall," the narrative stated. "The bullet that went through the window was recovered under a dresser that was next to the window."

The victim then stated that there were four unknown men sitting at a table directly in front of the window who were shot at while playing cards. They were not on the scene when the officer arrived. There were two other adults outside at the time, as well as a few others inside.

Photographs were taken at the scene. The incident remains under investigation.

A few hours later, at 1:19 a.m. Sunday, there was a carjacking incident that took place at 520 Robinson Ave. In the course of that incident, there was a 2000 Buick Park Avenue that was stolen.

"The victim told police that two black males forced him out of his vehicle, at gunpoint, while he was parked on the street," an email from Phyllis Banks, an APD spokeswoman, read. "Once he was out of the vehicle, they drove off."

One suspect was described as a male 18-20 years of age about 5-foot-10-inches and wearing a black or navy hooded shirt and jean shorts. The other suspect was a male about the same age wearing a multi-colored, button-up shirt.

The vehicle was recovered, but no arrestswere made.

In other news, the APD is still looking for the person that shot 60-year-old Levi Manigo Saturday evening on the 1500 block of West Highland Avenue. Manigo was shot twice in the back by an unknown male while he was gambling.

There were several witnesses to the shooting that were taken to the APD Law Enforcement Center for questioning. The investigation remains ongoing.
