Crews from Water, Gas & Light repair an electrical pole that was snapped after it was hit by an ambulance. The emergency vehicle was forced off the road when it was hit by a 2000 Honda Accord on Madison Street, according to Albany Police Department reports.
ALBANY — ALBANY — Ignoring their own injuries, two Dougherty County Emergency Medical Service personnel rushed to aid the driver of a car that forced them off the road and into a utility pole about 1:15 p.m. Tuesday.
“Dispatch sent another ambulance to the call the ambulance was making. Then they sent an ambulance to the crash the ambulance was involved in,” said Greg Rowe, EMS spokesman. “When the ambulance got to the scene, the two EMTs were assessing and treating the driver of the car that hit them. They were pretty banged up themselves.”
A 2000 Honda Accord driven by Shuntrez Taylor, 30, made a left turn from the right lane into Mercer Alley, shoving the ambulance in the left lane headed south on Madison Street into a utility pole, according to Albany Police Department reports. Taylor was charged with improper lane change.
Taylor and the EMS personnel, driver Elizabeth Posey and paramedic Jeff Rambo, were treated at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital had been released by 3 p.m. Tuesday, a hospital spokeswoman said.
Rambo received the honor of Emergency Medical First Responder of the Year from the Exchange Club of Albany at the club’s luncheon Friday.
A Water, Gas & Light Commission crew temporarily repaired the snapped pole. Crews were to return today to make a permanent repair.
