DAWSON, Ga. -- After a midnight fire was extinguished at 787 First Ave. in Dawson, police were called to the scene at about 4:40 a.m. Thursday when a body was discovered, Dawson Police Department Chief Charlie Whitehead said.
Upon arrival, officers found a 41-year-old man with two gunshot wounds lying face down in the backyard, Whitehead confirmed.
Terrell County EMS took the man to a hospital. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation was called in and the case was turned over to the organization, a Dawson police news release stated.
There was no information on whether the man died at the First Avenue backyard or at the hospital.
His identity was not disclosed Thursday and no additional information was immediately available.
