ALBANY, Ga. — The cars were backed up all the way to Oglethorpe Rd. as Valdosta State and Albany State football fans packed into the ASU Coliseum on Saturday night.

A sea of blue and yellow flooded one side of the field, and red-clad fans packed the other side. And neither side was disappointed in the show under the lights.

Valdosta State and Albany State went toe-to-toe the entire night before the Blazers walked away with a narrow 30-27 victory.

The estimated attendance was over 10,000 — the biggest crowd for an ASU home game since the 2004 Homecoming — as bleachers on both sides of the field were packed, spilling over onto the hills in between. Both school’s bands performed at halftime, eventually combining for a joint performance.

But it was VSU quarterback Austen Roberts and his offense that ultimately stole the show.

Roberts threw for 267 yards and two touchdowns to help VSU continue its domination of the rivalry. The Blazers have now won 14 of 15 games against the Rams.

So this is headline news as if it is a real shocker? Although listening to it on the radio it was an exciting game that could have gone either way and if ASU had a kicking game they might have won the game. The game started out like it was going to be a blowout but then ASU started coming back. At that point I felt whoever had the ball last would win the game and when ASU had the ball, I thought maybe they were set to pull out another late rally, but the interception killed that thought, but it was a good game. With the big crowd, a game like this was good for Albany.

They make it sound like this is shocking news. After all VSU beats them everytime they play them. VSU is now 14-1 against them. I tell everybody that VSU is the dominant team, but they don't believe me. I said last year that ASU was overated and the only reason they was undefeated at the time was because they had a weak schedule playing weak teams and if they had played VSU they would not have been undefeated. ASU fans had all this big talk about they would beat VSU if they played them, well ASU played VSU and once again lost, just like I said they would, so you might as well put that big talk to rest, because you talk the talk, but you couldn't back it up.

Well I am glad you gave us that insightful information, otherwise we wouldn't have known about it. So your team won, what do you want ? A medal?
