PREP ROUNDUP: Randolph-Southern, SGA win softball region games

SHELLMAN -- Madison Ragan tossed a no-hitter Tuesday against Crisp Academy, and the Randolph Southern softball team won, 2-1, to improve to 9-3 overall.

The Lady Patriots avenged their only GISA Region 3-A loss to improve to 5-1 in region play.

Ragan, who struck out 10 Crisp batters, had a solo home run in the first inning.

SGA 8, Brookwood 0: The Southwest Georgia Academy softball team improved to 13-2 and 6-1 in GISA Region 3-AA play with an 8-0 win at home against Brookwood on Tuesday.

Bailey Ponder (10-2) threw a one-hitter, struck out 11 and walked none for the Lady Warriors. Ponder lowered her ERA to 0.47 this season.

At the plate for SGA, Jenna Kitchings was 2-for-4 with an RBI; Baylee Everson was 3-for-4 with a double, a triple and three RBI; and Kyndal Carver was 2-for-3 with a triple and an RBI.

If the Lady Warriors beat Valwood on Thursday, they will repeat as region champions.

DWS, SOUTHLAND CROSS COUNTRY: The Deerfield-Windsor and Southland boys and girls cross country teams competed in Saturday's Mercer Invitational in Macon.

In the boys' meet, Southland was fourth and DWS was fifth. Southland's top runner was Geoffrey McDonald, who finished 15th in 19:28; and Deerfield's top runner was Marcus Grouthro, who finished 16th in 19:36.

In the girls' meet, DWS was third and Southland was fourth. Deerfield senior Mackenzie Davis won with a time of 19:28, while teammate Camilla Fox came in ninth in 22:13. Southland's top runners were Chris Shattles, who finished seventh in 22:00, and Tanzy Hogsed, who finished 10th in 22:28.
