ALBANY, Ga. — A white SUV driven by a woman veered off the road, smashed through a chain-link fence, plowed through bushes and crashed into a tree behind a home at 2700 Brittany Road at about 2:20 p.m. Saturday.

Dougherty County EMS took the driver to a hospital. She suffered the only injuries in the crash. The Albany Police Department has the crash under investigation and charges are pending against a 38-year-old woman, said Phyllis Banks, police spokeswoman.

Sandra Love said that after she heard the “loud crash” like thunder in the backyard, she thought it was the “lawn guy.” She opened the door and saw the smashed bushes and tire tracks on the Wicklow Road side of the house. The debris led to the SUV near a damaged tree.

“The woman was out of the truck and standing,” Love said. “She said she blacked out.”

Banks did not release the name of the driver by 5 p.m. A resident on the block, who did not wish to be named, said that the SUV belonged to the driver’s parents.
