THOMASVILLE - The Lee County softball team is back in the driver's seat in Region 1-AAAA.
For the second year in a row, the Lady Trojans wrapped up a perfect 4-0 record in sub-region play, routing TCC, 9-3, on the road Thursday night to earn the No. 1 seed for the start of Tuesday's Region 1-AAAA tournament in Cordele.
Erin Callaway, Lee's ace this season, struck out just one batter Thursday, but only allowed four hits in the complete-game win. The Lady Trojans gave Callaway some early cushion, scoring five runs in the top of the first and never looking back. Hailey Scott led the way, going 2-for-4 with a double, while Paiton Cromer also had a double and Natalie Shiver and Jamie McPherson each had a hit in the win.
Lee will open play Tuesday in the Region 1-AAAA tournament at 4 p.m. at the Cordele Softball Complex against No. 4 seed Northside, Warner Robins.
WORTH 10, CAIRO 2: The Worth County softball beat Cairo for the second time this season Thursday, wrapping up a perfect 6-0 Region 1-AAA record with a 10-2 home win. Worth's overall record is 18-9.
Kimberly Lee was 3-for-3 from the plate, while reigning Herald Player of the Year Haley Ellis was 1-for-3 with a monster home run to finish with three RBI. Ellis' sister, Heather, and Andrea Davis both finished 2-for-3 with two RBI.
