ALBANY Dougherty County School System officials say a truck collided with a power pole this morning, knocking out power at Live Oak Elementary School.
System spokesman R.D. Harter said Live Oak students will be dismissed early today and provided the following statement:
"After a thorough assessment of the power outage at Live Oak Elementary School this morning caused by a traffic accident that impacted a power line pole, students are attending classes in the school but will be released early today.
"Classes will be dismissed and buses will run at 1:45 this afternoon. Students who are picked up by their parents, guardians or by daycare transportation vans should be picked up at 1:45. Students who attend the Live Oak after school program will be transported to the Lake Park Elementary after school program at 1:45.
Parents should pick up these children at Lake Park Elementary School, 605 Meadowlark Drive, before 6:00 pm. We appreciate your cooperation and understanding in our dealing with this event."

This might give the budget committee a great idea! save money by not using lights! unless a classroom doesn't have windows, there is enough natural light to conduct class. I can't believe this wasn't thought of before!
