ALBANY, Ga. — The nude man found dead in the woods off the 1800 block of Westtown Road Wednesday is 52-year-old Anthony Westbrook of Albany, said an Albany Police Department official.
“The cause of death is a gunshot to the head,” said Phyllis Banks police spokeswoman.
Banks said that officers found Westbrook’s gold 2007 KIA Rondo at about 5 p.m. Friday at 1409 Palmyra Road, four miles from where the body was found. It may have been stolen as part of the crime.
Westbrook was found face down on a mattress. His body was taken to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation lab in Macon for an autopsy. The location of the killing, the type of gun used and the number of shots fired remain part of the investigation and wee not disclosed.

UPDATE 6 p.m.: APD officials say they have found Anthony Westbrook's car on the 1400 block of Palmyra Road.

The Albany Police Department’s Criminal Investigative Bureau would like to solicit the public’s assistance with locating a vehicle belonging to homicide victim 52-year-old Anthony Westbrook.
Westbrook was found deceased in a wooded area located in the 1800 block of Westtown Drive on April 4, 2012.
He was shot in the back of the head. Police believe Westbrook's car may have been stolen after the homicide.
Westbrook’s vehicle is a gold 2007 KIA Rondo bearing the tag DV705 I

The 5-foot-7-inch, 300-pound body found nude in the woods off an Albany dirt road that turns off from Westtown Road has been identified, stated an Albany Police Department official.
“We are not releasing the name until we have notified the family,” said Phyllis Banks, police spokeswoman.
The body was found before 12:41 p.m. Wednesday by a man searching the area for scrap metal.
The body lay face down with an injury to the back of the head.
The body was on a dirty mattress when police arrived.
The body was taken to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation lab to be identified, autopsied and examined for possible sexual assault. No details of the examinations were released.
The area, according to Cain Williams, a business manager in the area, is a popular place for a dumping site for trash, mattresses and “You wouldn’t believe the things you see back there.”
Investigators did not have answers to questions about where the man died, if he was dumped at the site or how he died.

Other way around...first they thought it was a woman as the body was laying face down. Then as they turned the body over to move it, they discovered it was a man.

That is absolutely correct therefore whites kill whites. So, why do so many white people freak out and accuse blacks of attacking? The poor steal from the poor and the rich steal from the rich; violent crime seems to be inter-color--white on white, black on black, brown on brown. School/college shootings are mass killings (more than 4 at one time) and really screw up the color matching.

Initial story yesterday said the body was an unidentified black female, later changed to unidentified black male. So AlbanyDad probably saw the story yesterday or heard about it on the news.

@ abdent, I just want to say THANK YOU. This is my uncle you all are sitting here talking about and I'm appalled at the lack of compassion you have for a human being and a family. You could assume where he was found and 85% of Albany is black, then most likely he is black. This is not a racial statement, just an observation. Most folks kill in Albany know each other. Very few murders have taken place in Albany that was just a random killing. I know of several rape murders on South Slappey that was never solved. Thelma who owned the Bridal Shop was never solved. There was also another one close to Rite Aide. Never caught the person.
