ALBANY, Ga. — Dougherty County Commissioner Muarlean Edwards is considering running for the seat currently held by State Rep. Carol Fullerton, she said.
“Right now we’re just looking at whether it would be feasible,” Edwards said. “I want to serve where I feel I can do the most good.”
Fullerton, an Albany Democrat, said that she intends to seek re-election to her district, which has been renamed District 153 following redistricting.
Edwards said that she’s currently researching the seat and is weighing whether to officially jump into the
race.
While Edwards is finishing her first term as a Dougherty County Commissioner after winning a special election in March 2007, she’s far from a newcomer when it comes to local politics.
Edwards has been politically active on the local scene since the 1980s when she tried to win a seat on the Albany City Commission.
The social worker and former teacher is the matriarch of arguably Albany’s most politically active family.
Her son, Victor, was the state’s youngest, and one of the nation’s youngest, county commissioners when he was elected to office in the 1980s, and her daughter, Velvet Riggins, is currently sitting on the Dougherty County School Board.
Edwards will likely make an official announcement today following the Dougherty County Commission’s scheduled meeting at 10 a.m.
If she decides to run, Edwards will be the first person to declare for Fullerton’s seat.
Edwards’ 3rd District has the distinction of being the only county commission district whose boundaries lie entirely within the city of Albany. Similarly,
Fullerton’s district is the only one of the three representatives in Dougherty County
delegation whose district sits entirely within the boundaries of Dougherty County.

Didn't take her long to decide she was ready for big times. You had better be ready to be examined better than city offices. If you have any dirty linen, get ready!!

I would not want any one to know that I had a child that lied about and got free lunches

Will that help or hinder her Daughter's case? Or is this somehow the start of political dealings to make the charges go away? Just curious.

Too much baggage with her children but then again she may win because people in these parts like to elect people with a lot of baggage.

Her grammar leaves a little to be desired. She needs to just stick to small time political arenas such as Albany, where poor grammar is taught, spoken and expected.
