ALBANY -- Mrs. Retha Luke Barnes, 89, 466 Miller Rd #B, Leesburg died Monday, April 9, 2012 at her residence.
Her funeral service will be Friday, April 13, 2012 11 AM at Kimbrell-Stern Funeral Directors with entombment in Crown Hill Mausoleum. Rev. Ray Lowe will officiate. The family will receive friends Thursday 6 to 9 PM at Kimbrell-Stern.
A native of Fitzgerald, Mrs. Barnes raised a large healthy family. She spent a great portion of her life working in industries that served as the backbone of America. From the Flint River Cotton Mill in Albany where she began working at the age of 17 to the shipyard in Brunswick where she served as a welder during World War II to Rockwell International and eventual factory owner Ayers Corporation where she served as an airplane fabrication until her retirement in 2000.
She was tireless and industrious woman throughout her life. Pastimes included vacations to the Blue Ridge Mountains, Charleston, SC, listening to Conway Twitty, Crocheting, and cooking meals for her family. Mrs. Barnes was a member of Philema Road Baptist Church.
Survivors include daughters Leila Mann, Leesburg, Patricia King (Ray), Leesburg, Martha Osborn (Raymond), Oklahoma City, OK, Greta Pye, Charleston, SC, Regina West (Tommy), Adel; sons Randolph Barnes (Mary Beth), Leesburg, Michael Barnes, Leesburg, Freddie Barnes (Jimmie), Lee County; brother, Fred Luke, Fitzgerald; sister in law, Hazel Luke, Fitzgerald; 28 grandchildren, 43 great grandchildren, 4 great great grandchildren; 2 dogs, Angel and Prissy; 3 birds, Salty, Buddy and Pete.
