The Lee County Chamber of Commerce will host its 21st annual Fishin’ Fantasy on April 28.
LEESBURG, Ga. -- Kids 14 and under are invited to go after the big ones -- or the little ones -- April 28 during the Lee County Chamber of Commerce's 21st annual Fishin' Fantasy.
For a $5 entry fee, youngsters will have an opportunity to spend the morning in search of the biggest, the longest and the smallest fish in W.F. Griffin's pond off Graves Springs Road. For their entry fee, participants will receive lunch, a container of worms to fish with and a tackle box.
"This is a great event; the kids always have so much fun," Chamber Director of Operations Lesley Barbosa said. "And money raised from the Fishin' Fantasy will go to a great cause: buying children's books for the Lee County Library."
Participants are encouraged to bring their fishing poles, chairs to sit in -- and don't forget the insect repellent -- and gather at the Lee County High School parking lot at 7:45 a.m. on the day of the event. Tickets are currently on sale at the chamber; additional information is available by calling (229) 759-2422.
"We are still looking for sponsors to help us with the Fishin' Fantasy," Barbosa said. "The local Walmart donated the tackle boxes that we will give to participants, and Mike's Country Store and the Leesburg IGA have donated food. That's a huge help; we want to make this a fun day for all the kids."
First, second and third prizes for the biggest, longest and smallest fish will be awarded in three age groups.
