OK, which leg? What did you expect the Sons of Confederate Veterans to post? Like it or not, I still believe the State gives it's employees Confederate Veteran's Day as a paid holiday. The only reason it isn't protested, I believe, is the number of Minorities that benefit from the day off. You either stand for something or you don't. About like the use of a certain term that if one group uses it to describe another it is a major offence. While if members of the group use it to describe each other it is perfectly acceptable, and used in jokes, lyrics and common communication in films and acts.

waltspecht It is called a double standard--and you are right. What is is good for the goose is not necessarily good for the gander especially if the goose is one color and the gander is another....

You cannot stick your head in the sand and ignore the Civil War. They are entitled to publicity whether you like it or not. As earlier stated, I bet not one black person refuses to work on Confederate Memorial Day. We also have Martin Luther King Day and street named after him. Do not see any streets called Robert E. Lee. The one in Lee County is named after a Lee County Man. I would like to know how many of the ASU students who were given entry at ASU and did not qualify for college at all were white. I would bet all the money in my purse that not one was white. Just like a white principal or paraprofessional has not been hired in years in DCSS. If so, name one.

The Jefferson Davis Highway doesn't count? Jeff Davis County? The confederate generals carved on Stone Mountain?

If ASU was ignoring admission requirements, then I'm sure at least one white slipped in.

There's Black History Month because blacks are less than 20% of the population. It's a time to recognize the accomplishments of some authors, scholars, and leaders. Whites don't need additional recognition - if this weren't a white country, we would have had a black president many years ago. Whites who aren't satisfied with a mere majority (or are scared of losing the majority) have a "club" for their cause.

"Just like a white principal or paraprofessional has not been hired in years in DCSS. If so, name one." Yeah, there are only two white principals in the system, and one is retiring at the end of the year... how much you wanna bet her replacement wont be white?

I want the principals to be qualified. I'm not "keeping score" on the skin color of the DCSS administrators.

Patrick, the problem is that the best and most qualified candidate is not being hired. Case in point, the recent hiring of Murfree.

1

PatrickY2K 2 years ago

Murfree isn't qualified because he has no previous experience outside of college. It isn't because he is black. If the 34th most qualified person had been white, he still would not have been qualified. All of the administrators can be black, if they are qualified....but I understand your point - don't hire an administrator just because he or she is black.

USTPC 2 years ago

Exactly my point. If Murfree being the 34th most qualified person had been white he would not have been hired. The fact that he was African American, had friends on the board who wanted him hired and those friends happened to also be African American speaks volumes. I agree with your statement that race should not matter and that the most qualified person should be hired. Unfortunately that is not what is happening.

I didn't notice a paid for full page ad for Black History Month, but I sure noticed a lot of free coverage. So if they are going to pay for the full page ad, it's their perogative. They certainly don't seem to be able to generate the free press the other Month does. Plus they have a right to honor their ancestry if they chose to do so. Just as long as it doesn't offend you? Oh excuse me, I thought this was America.

It's a mute point Corch.

If Blacks have their month, why can't Confederates? It's history, something that's not taught much anymore without some liberal bias. We need to know the truth, no matter how ugly it is.

Why is it that when blacks squawk it is always a racial thing? I think that is a cop out. Confederates have their place in history just as we all do. Your mentality must not be of such that you can only say it is okay to have MLK Day but let's not have any other holidays. Our country has tons of history and let's observe each for what they are.

Personally I feel Confederates do have that right even the KKK has that right....the point I try to make is that racial divisiveness has long been an issue holding back the progress of Albany and it is prevalent on both sides...

This country has so much to offer and so much History!!! I for one like them ALL...why not see all sides, without all sides we would not have any history at all.

We had a Civil War...cherish that part of History....(pretty cool stuff when you read about it)

We have a Civil Rights movement...cherish that part of History...(pretty hurtful stuff when you read about it)

We had a Women's movement...cherish that part of History...(pretty hurtful and mean when you read about it)

We have all types of idiots...cherish that part of History (without the idiots we wouldn't know how far we have come)

One Nation under God...indivisible and Justice for All....we say those words but do we live by them...

I only want fairness...from all sides...so I say let everyone have some part where they Honor and cherish their history...because their History is actually our History!!!

Talk about racism. The blacks want a whole month for themselves, but if the white population tried to have a month, Hello to Al and Jessie and hundreds of other blacks. What about the NAAWP instead of NAACP? I don't want to forget, doesn't most government agencies have MLK day off? POINT: Why is it, other than their claim to slavery that blacks should have all the rights which they have certainly used to their advantage and remember, the black race was the one's that sold their fellow man into slavery, not the white man. I remember an old black man in Worth county that said to me that the white man certainly treated him better than his own race. Look at black on black crime today. You, referring to the black man, have just about ran the marching, riots and demonstrations into the ground and the day is coming when enought is going to be enought. Try living in peace and harmony with all people and work for a living instead on living off the government.

1

fullcourtpress 2 years ago

well if you think about it 43 cop you already have more than a month....Not much about African Americans other than slavery and MLK is taught in the schools

Every month is white month. As long as a large segment of the local black population continues to have children out of wedlock, drop out of school, and engage in criminal behaviour they will continue to guarantee poverty, hopelessness and government assistance to meet their basic survival needs. The sad part is that they cant' see it. The welfare state perpetuated on this culture is modern day, paternalistic slavery. As long as African Americans continue to be satisfied with the daddy goverment's handouts and have no ambition to advance themselves, it will always be a white controlled economy and world. Sadly, they keep voting for the same loud mouth hucksters that keep on selling them the same bill of goods..

Confederate history month is about history, not about spreading hate. You have MLK day, Black History Month, why not a confederate history month? History is history!

QUESTION: IF BLACK HISTORY IS RECORDED AND TAUGHT TRUTHFULLY AND CONFEDERATE HISTORY RECORDED AND TAUGHT TRUTHFULLY WOULDN'T THEY BE ONE AND THE SAME SINCE THEY ARE BOTH INEXTRICABLY LINKED?
