Squawk of the Day - April 14, 2012

"Right now would be a perfect time for the Lee Commission to forget the Westover extension and work on getting Ledo from Nottingham to Philema Road four-laned. We don’t need another apartment complex in Lee County."

It is your opinion only that you do not need another apartment complex. Baby Boomers are approaching the age that we can no longer maintain individual yards or homes and we need a place where we do not have to do yard maintenance. Albany does not have many apartment complexes that are not in a high crime area. Everyone has an opinion and they are not the same.

Under Obama's new banking regulations, money to purchase a home is much more scarce. People have lost their homes and cannot buy another one. For you Geniuses out there...a question....What it the unintended consequence of this Socialistic Principle? Yes, there are a lot more people who have wisely decided to RENT in this unpredictable (and risky) Obama-economy. So there is a huge demand for rental property....meanwhile there are hundreds if not thousands of single family homes in a 50-mile radius of Albany for sale at a fraction of their former value (thanks again, Obama...). But no money available for qualified purchasers. BUT if you CAN'T afford it, just contact one of Obama's big contributors (Fannie or Freddie) and you can get plenty of money and best news of all, you won't even have to pay it back when all is said and done......if you'll just vote for four more years of Obama. Never mind that the country won't last for four more years of Obama. Hey, as long as you get yours, who gives a crap?

President Obama did not create the economic problems we face and will continue to face for many years to come, regardless of who is elected in November. The tight mortgage market is the result of a too loose mortgage market in the past. Sometimes, you seem like a dunce.

Are you saying Barnie Frank and the Democrats weren't behind that Mortgage fiasco? It was their demand for loosening the credit for home loans that allowed a lot of Bankers and Realtors to amass fortunes, and leave Taxpayers stuck with the bills. By the way, even as a Senator Obama voted and finagled to give away Federakl funds far more than most. Extending the already exceeded deadline for the Pigford settlement is just one example.

Thanks Walt, for the accurate supporting perspective. It's true that people blame the President of either political party too much. The real culprits are the Congress and yes, the Democrat-controlled Congress (House and Senate majorities) of the previous decade brought the collapse on by DEMANDING that loans be made to people who could not afford it and who in reality had absolutely NO INTENTION of paying the loans back. Barney Frank was the one leading the way and promising the US Taxpayer that "all was fine". He should be put in Prison for Perjury.

that's right....blame it all on Obama...when Dems were blaming it all on Bush it was equally wrong so please don't go there....

It was Obamas fault even before he became president.

I don't remember President Obama being in office when the United States, and our allies went to war against Afghanistan, and Iraq, under the pretense of finding Weapons of Mass Destruction. President Obama was neither in office when the problems started with the housing and economic downfall. Now you want to complain about the price of gas and the cost of living? The prices that homes are selling for now for the most part is what they are probably worth anyway. Being they were highly inflated to begin with. Something is wrong when roughly one percent of the country's population amassed wealth during this recession. The same one's who made the money from overinflated real estate and housing flipping. While the rest of us are left to foot the bill and complain. And have you forgot that we have been at war for the last decade? When President Clinton left office he had cut our federal deficit to zero, and amassed a surplus of monies. Now we are for the most part owned by China. Guess some of you want to blame that on President Obama too. Seems to me that some are hell bent on having President Obama's legacy as the worst President in U.S. history. To "SOMEBODY", and "MISTER -RUBY", as well as others who share your thoughts. President Obama, LIKE IT OR NOT, IS YOUR President too. If you don't like it , there is a place called YELLOWSTONE that is crime free, affordable housing(tents), and you can live there until she blows.

Clinton-era: Republicans had both Houses of Congress and got the ANNUAL DEFICIT under control until they lost back to the Democrats. Meanwhile the TOTAL DEFICIT was still several trillion dollars then. Please tell the truth, Mr. Hawk.

don't live in Lee county but agree that apartment complexes unless they are very expensive, attract a dis-proportionate share of low-lifes... also did you know that the only job Obama ever had was shaking down banks to make more loans to blacks who likely were never gonna pay them back...they called it "community organizer' but in reality, all he was,was a high tech shake down artist...

@Hawk59, yours is one of the very few posts that is logical and makes any sense.. the rest sadly show the true ignorance of Albany..

Sister Ruby is it Obama's fault that no weapons of mass destruction were found in Iraq too??

1

Black_Falcon 2 years ago

How did a squawk about Westover road work quickly descend into it's Obama's fault. No, its the Republicans. No its... etc. etc.

I seriously doubt the Republicans or Democrats gives a rat's a-- about Albany.

And for the record, despite political rhetoric, deficit spending has increased regardless of who was president or who controlled the Congress.

Don't fall for the banana in the tailpipe.

my point exactly falcon....well said

I always thought it was a potato in the tailpipe? Are you sure it is a banana? Maybe we are not thinking of the same thing.

Hawk59 said: When President Clinton left office he had cut our federal deficit to zero, and amassed a surplus of monies.

Hawk, you are either lying or one of the stupidest people who can read and write.

When Bill Clinton took office in 1992 the Federal Debt was $4 Trillion. When he left office in 2000 the Federal Debt was $5.6 Trillion. That's an increase of $1.6 Trillion on a base of $4 Trillion my friends. A 40% increase my friends. Let's all acknowledge facts, face facts, and live lives based on facts. These facts are addressed to Hawk59, tommybeall, coachjohnson42 and anybody else who likes to make it up as they go along. BTW, Barrack Obama has added over $5 Trillion to the debt in just 3 years, bringing us to a projected year-end Federal Debt of over $16 Trillion. Another fact. And the Democrat-controlled Senate, headed by a complete moron in Harry Reid, has not adopted a Federal Budget in 3 years and has no intention of allowing one to come to the Senate floor for a vote. This is Congress's PRIMARY Function. Completely irresponsible and to my mind, treasonous.

SO are you saying W. Bush didn't do anything to make the budget worse while he was in office. He didn't run a war off the books because he knew he was spending waaaaaaaayyy too much,

I just wanted you to clarify that Geore W. Bush did nothing wrong at all and he ia not to blame for any of this!??!?!

1

Sister_Ruby 2 years ago

No, Bush gave away much too much money also in a losing effort to appease Democrats. I was against that too........but he didn't increase the National Debt by $5 Trillion dollars in 3 years or 8 years either for that matter.
