THURSDAY'S LOCAL PREP ROUNDUP: Westwood baseball hammers local rival Terrell, improves to 11-1; Lee girls soccer wins subregion

CAMILLA — Bring on Crisp Academy.

Thursday’s 20-10, five-inning victory against Terrell Academy by Westwood improved the Wildcats to 11-1 overall and set up a showdown Tuesday in Camilla against the defending GISA Class A state champs next week.

Thursday’s game was a non-region contest, but both Crisp and Westwood will enter the game next week unbeaten in Region 3-A.

First pitch is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.

Caleb Morrell picked up the win Thursday for Westwood, but he’ll have to play better against Crisp as Morrell gave up 12 hits — although only one of those was an extra-base hit — while striking out seven.

Chason Worsham and Douglas Nobles each had three hits as Nobles smacked a double and walkoff grand slam in the fifth to end it. It was Nobles’ third homer of the season.

Mason Worsham, Mitch Good and J.T. Edore all had two hits, while Edore’s were a double and a home run.

Kyle Stratton led TAE with a HR.

Westwood plays Randolph Southern today at home before next week’s showdown with Crisp.

LEESBURG — The Lee County girls soccer team improved to 9-4 overall and 4-0 in the 1-AAAA subregion to wrap up the regular-season title after its 3-2 win against TCC on Thursday.

Kristi Sheridan, Suzanne Wynn and Nicole Polk all scored goals as the win sets up Lee as the No. 1 seed in next week’s region tournament, which it will host Tuesday against an opponent yet to be determined.

The Lee boys lost to Bainbridge, 3-0, on Thursday to forge a three-way tie in the subregion and force the teams to decide next week’s seeds via a tiebreaker.

SHERWOOD 5, SOUTHLAND 0: The Sherwood girls soccer team completed their season sweep of Southland on Thursday behind Jordyn Paramore’s two goals.

Sherwood goalkeeper Hannah Thompson recorded her eighth shutout of the season, and Paige Barker and Hannah King also scored a goal for the Lady Eagles, who finished 3-0 against Southland this season.

Sherwood improved to 14-4 overall and 5-2 in the region and will next play Deerfield at home Tuesday.
