Ed Rynders of Lee County will be one of the delegates to the Republican National Convention in Tampa, Fla., in August.
AMERICUS — Republican House 152 Rep. Ed Rynders was selected Saturday as one of three delegates from the Second Congressional District to attend the GOP National Convention in Tampa, Fla., Aug. 27-30.
Rynders, Don Cole of Crisp County and Brad Hughs of Early County, who is the district’s Republican chairman, were selected as delegates for the convention, while David Futral of Peach County, Joe Brannan of Muscogee County and Ben Harell of Decatur County were named alternates.
Rynders, who is from Lee County, said the 2012 convention is crucial to the nation.
“I am honored that the delegates (to the district convention) selected me as one of their representatives to the national convention,” he said. “The presidential election we have in front of us is, I believe, the most important of our lifetime.
“I look forward to delivering the message that we need less government, not more government.”
Seventy-nine delegates from the Second Congressional District met at the Rylander Theatre in Americus on Friday and Saturday to, among other items, select delegates for the GOP National Convention.
The six chosen were among 15 nominees interviewed by the nominating committee.
Rynders was an alternate delegate to the Republican Convention in New York City in 2004 and was a delegate at the 2008 convention in Minneapolis.
