APD responds to shooting and stabbing

ALBANY -- Two separate incidents -- one a shooting, one a stabbing -- were reported in Albany on Sunday, officials say.

One of the incidents took place at about 10:30 p.m. at 1907 W. Broad Ave., Albany Police Department officials say. An email sent by an APD spokeswoman late Sunday had the victim's name as Kynnorius James, 19.

The suspect was identified by the APD as a black male wearing all black and a mask, armed with an unknown type of gun.

The victim reportedly told police he was taking out the trash when he was approached by the suspect, and the suspect shot James in the leg.

The motive for the shooting was initially unknown. The victim was taken to hospital.

A few hours earlier, at about 5 p.m., a stabbing was reported at 615 W. Highland Ave., police officials said.

The APD identified the victim in that incident as Eric Barber, 28. The suspect was described as a black male, about 5-feet, 5-inches tall with crewcut hair and last seen wearing blue jeans and a white T-shirt. His nickname is "Fat."

The victim was reportedly stabbed in the upper chest area with an unknown object by the suspect. It was unknown what led to the suspect's actions. Witnesses state that the suspect's behavior and actions happened suddenly while they were gathered outside.

Barber was transported to the hospital.

Authorities said updates would be provided once additional information became available. Anyone with information is asked to call the APD at (229) 431-2100 or Crime Stoppers at (229) 436-TIPS (8477).
