ATLANTA — Brittany Carter scored 40 points by herself, winning four individual events to lead the Albany State University Lady Rams to their second consecutive conference women’s track & field championship on Saturday at Morehouse College’s B.T. Harvey Stadium.
The Lady Rams have dominated the conference meet and Saturday’s title was their their sixth title in the past seven years.
Carter was amazing.
She won the 800- and 1,500-meter runs with times of 2:16.93 and 5:08.06, respectively, on Saturday. Carter also won the 10,000-meter run and the 3,000-meter steeplechase on Friday night.
She was an easy choice to win the conference’s Women’s Most Valuable Track Performer at the 2012 championship, and also outscored every man in the men’s conference meet, winning her second consecutive Cleve Abbott Award, which is given to the male or female performer who scores the most points in the championship meet.
Albany State scored 195 1/2 points to run away with the title. Benedict was second with 121 1/2 points. Clark Atlanta was third (118 1/2).
ASU coach Ken Taylor was named the Most Outstanding Coach of the women’s meet.
