Riggins expects to be on Grand Jury docket Wednesday

ALBANY — Dougherty County School Board member Velvet Riggins said Monday that she expects to be on the Dougherty County Grand Jury docket when the body convenes on Wednesday.

“I expect to be on the docket, but I have not been officially notified,” Riggins said. “I am waiting to hear from my attorney (Mark Brimberry) to find out for sure.”

Riggins was arrested last December and charged with two misdemeanor counts of falsifying free or reduced school lunch applications and one felony count of Offense by a Public official. She is currently free on a $7,000 personal recognizance bond.

Riggins was scheduled to go before the grand jury early last month, but her case was delayed.

Her arrest came on the heels of three misdemeanor counts each of falsifying free or reduced school lunch applications against Morningside Elementary School Principal Gloria Baker and her husband John.

Baker was suspended by the Dougherty school Board for 15 days without pay.

South Georgia District Attorney Joe Mullholland was appointed as the special prosecutor to handle the Riggins and Baker cases after Dougherty County DA Greg Edwards recused himself because he personally knows both women.

On Monday, South Georgia Judicial Assistant DA Heather Lainer would neither confirm nor deny that the cases were on the upcoming grand jury docket.

Should the grand jury indict Riggins on the felony count, the DA’s office will send a report to the governor and if the charge is related to an elected official, he has the power to impanel a tribunal consisting of State Attorney General Sam Olens and two of Riggins’ peers — in this case, two school board members from different districts.

The tribunal would review the case, then make a non-binding recommendation to the governor, who could remove Riggins from office until the case is resolved.

Riggins is completing her first term as District 3’s representative on the DCSS School Board. That seat is up for re-election this fall.

Well, guess it is about time for this crooked DCSS "person". The only real problem is that there is about three (3) or four (4) more that should go down with her.

Please pray for this young lady, may God Angels watch over all of us, we know not what we say Father, we bash your people and feel good about it, we know we are living in the last days, we ask for your forgivness, because we are sinners, we know that our souls are sinful, and we need repentance from you. Forgive those who are casting stones, help them remember that they live in a glass house, and what they plant, will come to harvest.

Be positive, dont bias the situation, let the wheels of justice turn freely. Pray for the families, this to shall pass.

Now, can we be friends?

Sister Ruby Pray: Father (GOD, not SATAN) could you please help those who have lost they MINDS and who don't know Right from Wrong. Those who don't Remember what the Good Book Say "The Liar Ain't Gonna Tarry" and that Your Holy Son always say "Truly, Truly I say to you........" and then He say the Truth, not a Lie. And we remember Thou Carvest in That Tablet of Stone that Say: Thou Shalt Not Bear False Witness (ie Tell a Lie on a DCSS Form). In Jesus Name We Pray. Amen and Amen.

Y'all Backsliders and Degenerates...........DON'T GET ME STARTED!!!!!!!!!

People have believed they were living in the "last days" for centuries. It's bogus. If everyone would wake up from the delusion of religion -- all religion -- the world would be a much better place.

billybob and John Lennon.......birds of a feather.

Also billybob, the term "last days" mean that period of His Story (history, get it?) between Jesus Resurrection/Ascension and the time He Return to put all things right and straighten us all out once and for all. So yes we are living in the Last Days as were those people you mention. Good work!

May light be shined on the truth and deter others from taking money from poor children when they themselves are well off. Halleluiah!

I say alot on here, and that is my right.People can say what they like about the end of days.If you have not read your Bible, you will be fooled into thinking the Devil is the Lord comming to fly you away.I pray alot.Albany needs it,our country needs it.our Govt, needs it.If i can make one person think of The Good lord with my post, then i have done something good. And God will be proud. To many people are trying to take God outa our country. The Children are paying the price for alot of this. This is Children that need us to protect them, stand up for them, for they are to young to do it.Our school systems need help. And Corruption is everywhere.South Georgia Judicial Assistant DA Heather Lainer would neither confirm nor deny that the cases were on the upcoming grand jury docket. They will let these go,run out of time, for they do not want to do there jobs.Plain and simple.

Them? They?

I read somewhere that registered voters, vote according to fact's and not negative speculation.

Nothing from nothing means no bill in criminal cases. Sadly, negative comments about them and they wont be considered in a court of law.

However, in the court of public opinion, we the majority feel positive about our schoool system including the strife that has come upon the system.

I tell my friends that postive always comes from negative.

Now can we be friends? Bubavet_rureel
