ATLANTA — Dougherty County’s Democratic Party chair and one of its state representatives will be members of the delegation representing the 2nd Congressional District at the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, N.C., this fall.
The state Democratic Party announced Tuesday that Constance Burkes and state Rep. Winfred Dukes, both of Albany, have been chosen as district-level delegates to the convention. There are a total of five delegates for the congressional district.
“We are very pleased with the strong showing from Albany,” said Democratic Party of Georgia Chairman Mike Berlon. “The Democratic Party is alive and well in South Georgia.”
Burkes has been involved in Dougherty County politics as a local county chair, while Dukes has served as a state representative for a district that includes part of Dougherty County for 15 years.
The other three 2nd District delegates are Vivian Bishop of Columbus, wife of U.S. Rep. Sanford Bishop, D-Albany, who represents the 2nd District in the House; state Rep. Lynmore James, D-Montezuma, and Kattie Kendrick of Fort Valley.
