Herald names sales/marketing director

ALBANY, Ga. -- Scott H. Brooks has been appointed to the newly-created position of director of sales and marketing for The Albany Herald by Publisher John Hetzler.

"My role is to increase revenue," Brooks said. "My job is to market the paper to current and prospective readers and advertisers."

Brooks, 50, says he hopes to accomplish that mission by providing current and prospective advertisers "with a variety of means to advertise their products and services in our print and digital products."

"I am delighted that after our nationwide search for this newly-created, key executive position of director of sales and marketing, we were able to recruit a person of Scott's knowledge, skills and capabilities," Hetzler said.

Brooks, who joined The Herald on Monday, is in charge of the newspaper's advertising and circulation departments.

"Scott is uniquely prepared to make a difference at The Albany Herald," Hetzler said, "and I am confident that he is the right choice for this important step forward."

"SCNI and The Albany Herald are fortunate to have an executive with Scott's background as our newest senior manager," said Michael J. Gebhart, executive vice president of Southern Community Newspapers Inc., The Herald's parent company. "His well-documented newspaper career includes having worked with Warren Buffet. It's hard to top that. He will be a wonderful citizen for the Good Life City."

Brooks was most recently owner of Sonspire Inc., a marketing company based in Flower Mound, Texas. He also was vice president of marketing for Travelhost Magazine.

Brooks has held several managerial jobs in the newspaper industry, including publisher of Stanley News and Press in Albermarle, N.C.

He also has been vice president of advertising for the Buffalo News, Pittsburgh Post Gazette, Akron Beacon-Journal and Washington (D.C.) Examiner. Brooks has been classified advertising manager for the Buffalo News and the Baltimore Sun.

Brooks studied business administration at Faulkner University in Montgomery, Ala.
