The Panthers advance to the Sweet 16 for the second year in a row, where they will play Richmond Academy, Augusta next week.
Reigning Herald Player of the YearJoel Landis (No. 1 singles), David Cowan (No. 2 singles) and Brandon Roberts (No. 3 singles) each won, 6-0, 6-0, while the No. 2 doubles team of brothers Kentrell and Kendrick Mercer won, 6-4, 6-0, and the No. 2 doubles team of Colton Taunton and Justin Wells won, 7-5, 6-1.
“Joel is one of the best players in this area, but what is nice is that we have good No. 2 and No. 3 (singles players) that can go out and play good, strong tennis, too,” Americus coach Clay Willis said. “We are strong in doubles, too.”
