ALBANY, Ga. — It is in East Albany’s Ward I, but Albany City Commissioner Jon Howard invites all interested persons to the 10 a.m. April town hall meeting Saturday at 1721 E. Oglethorpe Blvd.
“Everyone is invited to come out and participate in discussions focusing on beautification efforts as it pertains to the city of Albany’s Solid Waste Ordinance,” Howard said. “Your input will be greatly appreciated.”
Howard added that city staff would be on hand to provide information on current practices and recommendations on how to become more environmentally efficient and financially responsible in dealing with solid waste disposal.
Proposed solid waste ordinances could have more strict enforcement to collect fees, Howard said. There could be a fee on a resident’s utility bill.
“It could be on the Water Gas & Light bill,” he noted. “Then if you don’t pay (the solid waste fee), the WG&L Commission could cut the power.”
Howard said Public Works Department director and superintendent Daniel Whigham is scheduled to speak at the meeting.
