ALBANY, Ga. — Nearly three years after his arrest, 30-year-old Craig Harrell was sentenced to 212 months in prison, followed by five years of supervised release, according to a U.S. Attorney’s Office report.
According to the report: “Albany resident Harrell pleaded guilty to possession of cocaine base or crack cocaine with intent to distribute on Feb. 23, 2011. Harrell admitted he had about 717 grams of cocaine and intended to distribute it.”
Handing down the sentence, U.S. Middle District Judge W. Louis Sands reminded Harrell that drug dealing was a serious voluntary crime.
U.S. Attorney Michael Moore said, “Drug dealers like Mr. Harrell belong in federal prison. He will now join the many others that this office has put there as we continue to pursue criminals who corrupt our communities with this poison.”
In 2009, after Albany-Dougherty Drug Unit and Albany Police Department SWAT raids on 1301 E. Roosevelt Ave. and 2569 Crescent Drive, the price attached to the drugs ranged up at $77,000. Also seized were 16.9 grams of marijuana and about $6,500 in cash.
Gang Unit officials identified three gangs with ties to the drug operation in 2009 but would not release the names of the gangs.
