MCLB-ALBANY -- A spokesman for Marine Corps Logistics Base-Albany has confirmed that there is an investigation currently under way at the base by the Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS).
The spokesman said he could only confirm that there was an open investigation currently taking place on the installation. An inquiry sent to the public affairs office for NCIS went unanswered Monday afternoon.
NCIS is a federal law enforcement agency charged with conducting investigations of felony-level offenses affecting the Navy and Marine Corps, or crimes punishable by confinement for more than one year. NCIS also performs investigations and operations aimed at identifying and neutralizing foreign intelligence, international terrorist and cyber threats to the Department of the Navy.
In addition, it provides warning of threats and specialized defensive force protection support to U.S. naval forces around the world, the agency's website says.
