SYLVESTER -- Mr. Ira J Simpson, 79, of Doerun died Tuesday May 31, 2012 at UniHealth Post-Acute Care in Moultrie after declining health.

The funeral will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday August 3, 2012 at Union Baptist Church with interment to follow in the church cemetery with Rev. Donnie Bentley and Rev. Lonnie Gibson officiating.

Mr. Simpson was born on September 21, 1932 in Jeff Davis County to the late Joseph A. and Lucy Jones Simpson. He graduated from Sylvester High School in 1950, served in the United States Army and was stationed at Fort Knox, KY. Mr. Simpson was a retired farmer and machine operator with Seabrook Blanching Corporation in Sylvester. He was a devoted Baptist and a longtime member of Union Baptist Church where he had served as the Men's Sunday School Teacher, deacon and church clerk. Mr. Simpson loved to fish, hunt and grow a large garden every year in which he enjoyed sharing with anyone who came by.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Patricia "Patsy" H. Simpson of Doerun; son, Bradley Simpson of Fernandina Beach, FL; sister, Mylene S. Stevenson of Cordele, and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents Mr. Simpson was preceded in death by a sister, Irene Miller and two brothers, George M. Simpson and Wilson A. "Buddy" Simpson.
