"I’m so proud of all the wonderful people who stood in long lines to support Chick-fil-A and Mr. Cathy’s stand for traditional marriage."

We need to go again today with our husbands or wives to show even more support during the "Kiss In" by gay couples....
I hope no children see that disgusting display.
This is so silly...
Did you ever think that if segregation had been put to a vote how much different our world would look today? People never welcome change. That doesn't mean it isn't right. You can get married at the courthouse, without any mention of God or the church and it will work just as good, or badly as in the church.
Change and perversion are two completely different things.
What is perverted?
According to you. There are people who feel interracial marriage is a perversion. Should that be illegal? We do not live in a theocracy. Your religious beliefs should not dictate wether or not a gay person can enjoy the same rights as a straight person. Additionally, why are you picking and choosing what rules from your magic book you want enforced?
I never mentioned religion or any "magic book". I just think it's gross and unnatural, and fortunately, I'm free to express my opinion.
Yes you are. You should not be able to legislate your opinion. I think fat people having sex is gross. Maybe I should push for prohibiting them from getting married.
I don't think fat people having sex is gross but I wonder why no one responded to your comment. I do find it interesting tho, that fat people can engage in sexual relations. As a nurse I always used to wonder about things like that when making home visits and they involved things of an um....intimate nature. But you are right, maybe you should push for a prohibition on them marrying and procreating. Sounds foolish I know but no more foolish than two people of the same sex wanting to be together in a union sanctioned by the law. At least the two of the same sex are not going to be a burden to society by having a bunch of "yard chillin"(and here comes my curiosity about how the fatties did it), probably be on welfare because of their gross obesity, have high blood pressure and diabetes, and a plethora of problems that will cost the tax payers a bundle. I am entitled to my opinion too...and gave it...
Curious: when did the defintion of 'marriage' include a god or a religion? A while back, I was accused by one of the squawkers of redefining 'racism' to fit my argument; would this complaint also cover the twisting of the definition of marriage to fit a religious argument?
Marriage means taking a wife or a husband; that people do it in a center of religious belief is secondary. The union does not need any involvement of gods to be valid. The state issues the marriage license, not a religious center. If a couple gets 'married' in a center without the license from the state, the couple is NOT married and is not entitled to any tax breaks. I agree with you there, Jimboob.
The States got in the marriage business to produce more funding for the State.
The Bible states that marriage is a man of one wife. It also states that men who lie with men are an abomination to God. There are other verses, but you get the gist. If you believe in the Bible, you will believe in this.
But we do not live in a theocracy. Public policy should not be based on the bible. I am just as opposed to that as I am Iran basing its public policy on the Koran and sharia law. Furthermore, the bible is full of a lot of other things that god is opposed to which occur legally in our country everyday. Should we pass laws against taking god's name in vain. Against coveting? Against wearing clothing of mixed fibers? Why pick and choose from the bible those things which you want to affect public policy and ignore others?
I prefer a dictionary for definitions. I refer to a holy text when I need such a reference.
Does not need God to be valid? To enter into the Kingdom, it does. First, God's word gives us clear direction for clean and wholesome living. Our bodies do not belong to us, but to God the one who made them. Marriage is a holy institution to be practiced only between a man and woman. The book of Leviticus 18:22, speaks of homosexuality as an "abomination." When God created man and woman, he instructed a man shall leave his father and mother and cleave to his wife, the two shall become one. It is also clear throughout God's word that the man and woman become like one flesh.
Again, we do not live in a theocracy. Public policy is not to be dictated by a religious sect who follows a 2000-year-old book. Furthermore, you are also picking and choosing which parts of the bible you would like to see enforced. Unless of course, you are advocating death by stoning for adultery and other such 'transgressions.'
I for one am so sick and tired of this crap with Chik-fil-a. Shows how petty most people really are. Can we please move on to more important matters?
I support Chick-fil-a, but let's move on. Sorry, but I don't want to wait in a mile long line to get a Chick-Fil-A sandwich.
All I know is you will never see that many Christians in line to serve at a homeless shelter. What a marvelous demonstration of your Christian faith. You bought a sandwich. I've posed this question in several of the comments here and still not had an answer. How does gay people getting married affect your marriage or ability to get married as a heterosexual? How is it different than gays getting a driver's license?
You are terribly misinformed. Have you ever even tried to seek out volunteer opportunities in Albany? Given the way you talk about God and Christians, I'd think not. You have no standing on which to base your assumptions. There are several non-profits in our area who survive only because of their volunteers. You would serve yourself well by opening your mind and your heart and seeking out an opportunity to serve. It will change your life for the better, I promise. As for how gay marriage would affect someone's ability to have natural marriage, it wouldn't. And comparing marriage to driving, well... that's just silly.
Really, Lulu? When is the last time you have seen that many Christians lined up for volunteer service? Never. You know it and I know it. I have volunteered for many things in the community by the way. Christians don't have the market cornered on charity and kindness. My mind and heart are open. I don't care one iota if gays want to get married. And comparing marriage to driving is completely relevant as they are both activities that are governed and sanctioned by the government. Thank you for recognizing that gays getting married has no effect on heterosexual marriage.
Please read this:
I stand by my statement. Cherry-picking one event in one city does not indicate christians line up to volunteer in the numbers that showed up to buy chicken. Again, Lulu, you have avoided the question. Have you ever seen that many Christians in Albany lined up to volunteer for anything? No, of course you haven't. Just answer honestly.
So, I take it 'billybob', you are not a Christian. I do hope you get saved before your time comes. And now don't go gettin' all mad and puffed-up at me for that cause its the way you write that leads me to think that. Sure hope I can meet you on the Sunny Banks.
Saved from what? Show me one piece of evidence that your god is any more real that the god/gods worshipped by the Hindus, the Hare Krishas, the Buddhists, etc., etc. You do realize you are an atheist where every other religion is concerned, right? I just believe in one less god than you do.
Probably most of those people in line at CFA were church-going Christians. But I bet a good many of them were not regular church-goers, but proponents of free speech. This "controversy" stepped on the toes of two subsets of demographics. Considering that all those people represent many different churches, and many different volunteer opportunities, then I would have to say that, YES, if you put all those churches and all their ministries together, that that many people do line up to volunteer for any given reason on any given day. Maybe just not in one spot. There are only two CFA's here, but many, many churches.
The support wasn't about gay marriage you moron. It was about freedom of speech. Do all you people read a paragraph out of a column & make up the rest?
I would disagree. I fully believe most of those people buying chicken, particularly those in Albany, are opposed to gay marriage. Furthermore, I believe nearly all of them who are against gay marriage are against it based on their religion. The irony is your assertion that these are freedom loving people, they just don't want people who are gay to be free to marry. I want Mr. Cathy to be free to say whatever he want to say. I want you to be free to buy all the chicken you want. I want you to be free to go to church. I want me to be free to say I think your religion is bogus. I want gays to be free to marry. I'm for freedom - not just picking and choosing what freedoms I'm for. I've been married for more than 15 years and I in no way feel that the validity of my marriage is threatened by gays being able to marry. It wouldn't affect my marriage in the least.
Billy - if you are for all freedoms without picking and choosing, then you should be OK with your neighbor having sex with your dog (his choice of being free to choose who he mates with), or if your 65 year old neighbor wants to marry a 12 year old girl, or even wants to marry a chicken. There comes a point where there must be reasonable guidelines for a civilized society. Sounds absurd does't it? These will not affect your marriage either, but should they be viewed as OK by others according to your flawed views?
Progressive did you graduate high school? Dogs, chickens and minors are unable to consent to such a relationship. Your analogy is terrible. We are discussing marriage between consenting, mentally competent adults.
I have said those same things myself. Funny to see someone else say it, too. Lets just have a world FULL of free for alls. Free to do this, free to do that, blah, blah, blah. To answer your question, BillyBob, because we have to draw the line somewhere, otherwise folks like you are gonna keep screwing this world up worse and worse. Morals are out the window. If we could fix all the worlds problems at once, that would be great (and probably require a magic wand), but we can't, so we focus on one thing at a time. Just because you scream louder and can overtalk some of us, doesn't make you right. It just makes me tired of you.
All of that is well and good, but you didn't answer or even address the question. How would two consenting, mentally competent adults getting married, straight or gay, affect your marriage? Your freedom?
They don't affect my marriage or my freedom. They affect the decline of OUR world that we live in and this country as a whole. Morals down the drain. But lets just have no morals and see where its getting us. Open your eyes and look, really look, at this world we live in. Crime is rampant, teenagers having babies, divorce rates thru the roof, children out of control...I could go on and on. As I said, you gotta start to draw the line somewhere.
ONE CAN APPLY ANY TERMINOLOGY THAT CAN BE IMAGINED BUT ONE THING IS SURE: THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS "GAY" MARRIAGE. THAT WOULD PUT AN ABOMINABLE, UNNATURAL ACT ON EQUAL FOOTING WITH MARRIAGE BETWEEN A MAN AND WOMAN. THE GOVERNMENT SHOULD NOT BE SANCTIONING THIS.
Again, abominable and unnatural to you. There are people who think interracial marriage is abominable and unnatural. Might does not make right. What if one day there were more non-Christians in this country than Christians and the non-Christians voted to amend the Constitution and make Christianity illegal. Would that be acceptable to you simply because the majority felt that way. If might made right there are places in this country where Jim Crow laws would still be in force. As far as the government sanctioning it, the government is not to make policy based on religion. Period.
NO, MIGHT DOES NOT MAKE RIGHT, BUT RIGHT DOES MAKE MIGHT. WHAT IF? OK WHAT IF EVERYONE TURNED TO SAME SEX RELATIONSHIPS? PROCREATION WOULD CEASE, DECLINE OF CIVILIZATION. THE SOLUTION? THE RIGHT WAY, MAN AND WO-MAN. REBUILDING THE MIGHT OF CIVILIZATION. NATURALLY OF COURSE. NATURE IS UNALTERABLE.
It's interesting that you think right makes might. I guess since there are more people in the world who don't follow Christianity than follow it, Christianity must be wrong by your logic. Regarding your second point, I don't even know where to begin. Why in the world would everyone in the world turn to same sex relationships. They could do that now if they wanted to. Same sex relationships are perfectly legal. So is procreation outside of marriage. And nature is more and more alterable every year. Just look at the field of genetics and medicine. I'm reminded of the line from Men In Black. 1500 years ago, people knew the Earth was the center of the universe. 500 years ago, people knew the world was flat. 15 minutes ago you knew there were no aliens. Imagine what you'll know tomorrow.
This will happen around 2040, so get ready. Then you will see what a great country we live in and Gays will not have any rights then either.
Why is it going to happen around 2040?
Billybob, read John 11:25&26. Do you believe in a literal interpretation? Also, read, Matt. 11:5, Matt. 12:9, and Matt 20:30, John 11:43&44 and Mark 10:46 for more of your quest for divine healing. As believers, our charge is to share the truth. Yours is to accept or reject the truth. Careful though, because there are consequences to your choices. Oh, and don't respond with asking if I was there to see these healings, because neither were you.
Yes the bible is full of myth. That is my point. The bible also talks of a man building a boat so large it contained 2 of every animal on the planet, food for the animals for 40 days and a world wide flood for which there is no geological evidence. It features Jesus magically turning a few fish and loaves of bread into enough food to feed 5000 people. Oh and let's not forget the talking snake, the talking donkey, the talking shrub... Using the Bible to prove the Bible is intellectually dishonest anyway. And you still fail to explain why god NEVER heals Down's Syndrome, amputees or answers any prayer that violates the laws of nature despite plainly saying throughout the bible that he will.
Once again, those are your narrow worldly interpretations of the laws of nature. It is what you want it to be and how you want it to be. I am not God and will not pretend to know why God does what HE desires with the laws of nature. There is much that can not and will not be explained. As for the animals, you just picked and chose your limitations, rookie.
What? The laws of nature are not open interpretation. That's why they're called the LAWS of nature. As far as there being much that can not be explained, I would submit there is less and less the more we learn and search. 1500 years ago people believed the earth was the center of the universe. 500 years ago they believed the world was flat. Who would have predicted mapping the human genome? The gaps with which you like to fill with god become fewer and fewer as humanity finds the real answers. And you will have to explain your comment about the animals and limitations. You lost me there.
Zaxbys long lines no political BS
Never been to Zaxby's but hear the food is good. BTW, got any idea what is gonna happen in 2040?
FlunkyMonkey, I agree with you! I wonder how the outcome of participants is going for the "kiss In".
I may be out in left field somewhere, but I think the main issue here in not necessarily gay marriage, rather freedom of speech without government intervention.
Yes, I agree but I am certainly enjoying the debate and think billybob had made some wonderful points.
All I know is the chicken man made a ton of cash on the christians.
Go Chicken Man Go.
I believe everyone should have an equal opportunity to get married and be miserable for the rest of their lives.....same sex same problems.
I MYSELF WOULD NOT KNOW THAT. HOW IS IT THAT YOU DO?
MRKIA...do you know what is going to happen in 2040? Just curious.
MR. CATHY MADE A STATEMENT DEFINING HIS PERSONAL BELIEFS, NOT HIS BUSINESS PRACTISES. HIS BUSINESS TOOK IN A WINDFALL. GOD WORKS IN MYSTERIOUS WAYS.
Well neener neener...I found out what is going to happen in 2040!!..Pyramidologist Max Toth predicts the physical reincarnation of Jesus Christ occurring in 2040. I quote--"Like other pyramidologists, he used the dimensions of the Great Pyramid's passageways to predict future events." So be prepared!!! But, good news, or bad, whichever way you look at it...Ian Gurney predicts in his book The Cassandra Prophecy - Armageddon Approaches that the "final date, Judgement Day, the end of mankind's time on this planet, is less than eleven years away", which means that the world is set to end by 2023 at the very latest. So forget about December of this year when the world is supposed to end....you have 11 more good years left. Hope I haven't been on a wild goose chase and this is what chinaberry was referring to in her posts. Won't I have egg on my face if she wasn't...?? So if one is a Christian I suppose they believe this and if one is not they just laugh it off. Correct?
