PRECIOUS MEMORIES OF The 1st Monroe and Baker Family Reunion

— Eighty-five family members focusing on four generations of the Monroe and Baker family reunion convened on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, July 12-15, 2012 in Albany, Georgia.

The activities included a ribbon cutting ceremony and a sociable meet and greet night on Friday July 13th, 2012. The ribbon cutting ceremony took place at the former home of our grandparents, Mr. Alfred Monroe and Lady Myra Lillian Baker Monroe. Adult Meet and Greet night took place at the reunion hotel Wingate by Wyndham. The Kids and Teens meet and greet night took place at Little Ceasars and Stardust Skating. For the occasion, the family has chosen the theme, ”WE ARE FAMILY”, and has adopted the family song IT’S A FAMILY REUNION by The O’Jays.

On Saturday, July 14, 2012, family and friends toured the Albany Museum of Arts. Immediately following the tour, the family reunion picnic was held on the grounds of Historical Tift Park at 1301 North Monroe St. A tour of the Tift Park boys and girls club was also scheduled. The family reunion colors are Lavender and Blue and everyone wore specially designed reunion T-Shirts in celebration of the occasion. Later on Saturday evening a dinner program and dance was held and family and friends enjoyed a buffet dinner. Special recognition and honor was given to their six grandparents, Mr. Joseph Monroe I and Lady Georgia Williams Monroe, Mr. Alphonso Baker and Lady Myra Lillian Lynch Baker, Mr. Alfred Monroe and Lady Myra Lillian Baker Monroe. They were very supported of family togetherness, the Arts, Music, Education, the Scouts, Boys and Girls club, the Political Community and Community Involvement. Specially selected piano pieces was dedicated to our six grandparents in their memory. The dinner program also consisted of ARTS EXPLOSION: A Showcase of family artist, presenting and displaying their arts and crafts in the banquet hall. A candlelight remembrance service and the song Ave’ Maria was dedicated to memory of our departed loved ones.

On Sunday July 15, 2012, the family convened for worship service at First United Methodist Church, under the guidance of Dr. Don Adams Senior Pastor and Reverend Carrie Myers Associate Pastor located at 307 Flint Ave. Immediately after the service a farewell reception was held. Many, Many, Many, thanks to everyone who made our 1st family reunion a memorable one. The 2nd Monroe and Baker family reunion is scheduled for July 11-14th, 2013, in Albany, GA.
