BARTOW, Fla. — The Lee County 12-year-old Dixie League team opened up the Dixie League World Series on Saturday with a 4-2 win against Team Arkansas.
Lee County, which is representing the state of Georgia in the double-elimination tournament that goes through Thursday, scored three runs in the second inning and never looked back.
In the second inning, Fred West walked and then scored on a hit by Tyler Ross, who later crossed the plate on a hit from Gavin Paul.
T.Z. Grace added a hit to right-center field to score Paul.
Lee County scored its fourth run in the fourth inning when Garret Suiter led off with a triple and scored on a passed ball.
Paul started on the mound and threw three innings, Aaron Greene tossed 2 1/3 innings in relief and Suiter struck out the final two hitters — with the tying run on base — to pick up the save.
Lee County plays again at 6:30 p.m. today against Louisiana, which beat Virginia Saturday.
