TIFTON -- Jerry Williams Hobbs, Sr., 79, of Tifton died Wednesday, August 8, 2012, at Tift Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 11, 2012, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. Rev. Roger Tucker will officiate with burial to follow in Tift Memorial Gardens with Masonic rites. Members of the Tifton Masonic Lodge will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Friday, August 10, 2012, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.
Mr. Hobbs was born on February 25, 1933 in Tift County and was the son of Alonza Hobbs and Louise Bishop Hobbs, both deceased. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Doretha Hobbs; and one son, Eddie Kenneth Williams.
He was retired from Prince Chevrolet, where he was an auditor. He attended New River Baptist Church and was a veteran of the United States Army, having served in the Korean Conflict and in Vietnam. He was a member of the Tifton Daylight Lodge #745; District Deputy of the Grand Lodge of Georgia; Past master of Tifton Lodge #47; Coastal Plains Commandry #42; Tiftarea Council #58; Scottish Rite and Knight York Cross of Honor.
Mr. Hobbs is survived by one son, Jerry Williams Hobbs, Jr. of Tifton; one brother, Wayne W. Hobbs of Tifton; one sister, Wynelle Edwards of Tifton; and one grandson, Jeremy William Hobbs of Tifton.
