Terrell County to host workshop

DAWSON, Ga. — Officials in Southwest Georgia are continuing the effort to educate its citizens on cancer and its impacts.

A breast and cervical cancer workshop for African-American women will be held Tuesday from 6:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. at the Terrell County Health Department, located at 969 Forrester Drive S.E. in Dawson.

Funded by an American Cancer Society Health Equity Grant, the goal of the workshop is to increase cancer screening through community outreach and education while coordinating cancer screening services, organizers of the event say.

The grant was made possible by community partners including Southwest Public Health District, Phoebe Cancer Center, American Cancer Society and Cancer Coalition of South Georgia, officials say.

For more information on the workshop or to RSVP, contact the health department at (229) 995-2188.

Glad this is in August. Isn't it true that just a month or two ago, the Albany Health Department district was completed out of funds for breast and cervical cancer screening? If you can't provide the screening tests, why waste money to recruit more people to be screened?
