SYLVESTER -- Mrs. Ruth Richardson Houston, 95, of Sylvester died Wednesday, August 8, 2012 at Pine Shadows Retirement Manor.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, August 11, 2012 at the Hillcrest Cemetery with Dr. Ben Bush officiating.
Mrs. Houston was born on August 13, 1916 in Doerun, GA to the late James Reeves and Gertrude Woolard Richardson. She had spent most of her young life in Abbeville, AL, having moved to Sylvester in 1947 when she married Mack H. Houston, Sr. Mrs. Houston graduated from the University of Alabama with a B.S. Degree in English. She retired from the Worth County Board of Education as a Fourth Grade Teacher and a Librarian at Sylvester Elementary School. Mrs. Houston loved to read and play bridge with her many friends. She was a member of First Baptist Church for over 60 years where she taught Sunday School for many of those years. She was a dedicated Christian who loved the Lord and brought his teachings to all of those around her.
Survivors include her son, Mack H. Houston, Jr. (Mary) of Sylvester; grandsons, Hank Houston, Thom Houston; and a number of beloved nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Houston was preceded in death by her husband Mack H. Houston, Sr. on December 11, 1965; brothers, Edward Richardson, Harold Richardson and a sister Virginia Espy.
The family will receive friends on Saturday from 10:00 AM until service hour at Banks Funeral Home.
