APD has busy weekend

ALBANY — Aggravated assaults and at least one armed robbery kept the Albany Police Department occupied Saturday evening, available reports indicate.

An armed robbery took place at 11:30 p.m. Saturday at Johnny Carino's Country Italian Restaurant on Kensington Court, reports from the Albany Police Department show.

Police officials say two employees were taking out garbage when two unidentified gunmen approached and forced them back inside the business.

Once inside, the two men, armed wit handguns, stole cash and a cell phone from one employee, took cash from the office of the business and fled, police said.

As of Monday evening there had been no arrests and the case remained under investigation. Police officials have indicated that there were five counts of aggravated assault filed in connection to the incident.

There also was an aggravated assault involving a 14-year-old boy with a firearm, reports show.

That incident took place at 6:10 p.m. Saturday at 434 Ebony Lane. Officers responded to a report of juveniles with guns and, while investigating, they encountered a 14-year-old boy riding a bike.

During the pursuit, the juvenile pulled a handgun from a backpack and pointed the weapon in the direction of one of the officers, police say.

The teen was subsequently taken into custody and transported to the Albany Regional Youth Detention Center. There were no injuries reported, police said.
