ALBANY — Land is being prepared off Dawson Road for a new Hampton Inn and Suites. According to Hitesh Patel, general manager of the current Hampton Inn at 806 N. Westover Blvd., actual construction of the hotel will begin upon final approval of the city. Patel, who has been named as manager of the new facility, said construction is expected to be completed sometime in September 2013.

The current 82-room Hampton, adjacent to the Albany Mall, is something of an outdated design, Patel said, with outside access to guest rooms and its less “socially inviting” lobby.

“People today don’t want to spend time in their rooms so much,” Patel said. “They’d rather spend their time with other people.”

To that end, Patel said, owners of the Albany Hampton franchise, HVN LLC in Memphis, Tenn., will establish the new lobby with a “community table” with candles, high-end window sheers and other amenities designed to foster social mingling.

According to Patel, the new five-story, 62,000 square foot hotel at 2628 Dawson Road will include 92 larger and improved guests rooms, enhanced meeting spaces, a two-level breakfast area, an outdoor swimming pool and a state-of-the-art fitness center. Nine or 10 additional employees are expected to be hired for the new Hampton Inn, bringing the total employment to about 34, Patel said.

Say, would that be right behind the Olive Garden? So the clients could go to Outback, or Olive Garden without driving? If so, it seems like a good business move. Glad to have things improving, and more jobs opening up for the cronically unemployed that actually want to work.

No, I think this new location is behind Waffle House, Ruby Tuesday, Steak & Shake In that wooded area.

The article says it will be built on Dawson Road! Being behind Olive Garden and behind Waffle House would make it on Westover! It says Dawson Road!!!

I stayed a few nights at The Hampton Inn in Gulf Breeze Florida a few weeks ago and it was much more modern and nicer looking than the Hampton Inn here in Albany. It had inside guest room access which I like a lot better than the outside access.
