De'Angelo Montrez Wallace

ALBANY, Ga. — De’Angelo Montrez Wallace, 20, of Albany is wanted as the gunman in a Saturday armed robbery of the Pitt Stop convenience store on Sylvester Road, a Dougherty County Police Department official says.

“At about 4:30 Saturday afternoon, two men went in the Pitt Stop, showed a gun and demanded money,” said Detective Sgt. Chad Kirkpatrick. “Through the investigation, we identified Wallace as the man with the handgun.”

The gunman identified by police as Wallace was wearing red and holding a handgun, and had a bagman with him, a video surveillance tape showed. The bagman took an undetermined amount of cash from the clerk, placed it into an over-the-shoulder bag and the two men ran from the store, according to the video images.

Before the robbers entered the store, a young man bought a beer from the clerk, the video showed. That man left the store and made a couple gestures with his arms that could have signaled the robbers, Kirkpatrick said.

“It looks like he was gesturing OK to go on in,” Kirkpatrick said. “We’d like to talk to him.”

Another man investigators would like to talk to is the driver of a red pickup truck that pulled into the Pitt Stop parking lot just after the robbery. The gunman pointed his handgun at the driver when the robbers ran past the truck’s parking spot.

“He is a witness we’d like to talk to,” Kirkpatrick said. “He is also a victim because Wallace pointed a gun at him.”

The Pitt Stop has been robbed before. On Dec. 21, 2010, Dougherty County Police Lt. Cliff Rouse was killed in the line of duty while tracking an armed robber from the convenience store.

Police would like the community’s help in locating the suspected robbers. Officers also request that the witness in the red pickup call them.

Just a big misunderstanding! Those "angels" were just trying to raise money for Bishop Burr to get those libraries back open, so they would have a place to hang out and learn.
