ALBANY — A shooting that took place early Thursday afternoon resulted in two people being taken into custody while a nearby school was temporarily locked down as a precautionary measure.
Albany police officials say shots were fired on the 400 block of Poplar Street around noon. Several law enforcement agencies, including the Albany Police Department and the Albany-Dougherty Drug Unit, responded to assist with the apprehension of the suspects.
Officers pursued two individuals in a brief foot chase until they were captured and subsequently taken into custody.
The incident remains under investigation. There was no word on charges being filed as of Thursday afternoon.
Officials with the Dougherty County School System confirmed that Magnolia Elementary School, located several blocks away on Samford Avenue, had been put on temporary lockdown — or Code Red — immediately following the shooting as a standard safety measure.
No injuries were initially reported in connection to the shooting.
