Lee Chamber seeks nominees for top awards

LEESBURG -- The top business organization in Lee County is seeking nominations of people to be honored at its annual meeting.

The Lee County Chamber of Commerce recognizes the Man of the Year, Woman of the Year, Partner in Agriculture, Partner in Education, Ambassador of the Year, Small Business or Business Person of the Year and Lifetime Achievement Award at its annual meetings.

This year's meeting is planned for Nov. 8 at the new Lee County Library and Conference Center. The networking and socializing begins at 6 p.m., followed by the dinner and program at 7 p.m.

Lesley Barbosa, director of operations for the chamber, said she is still in negotiations for a speaker for the 24th annual banquet. Tickets, she said, are $35 per person, with a table of eight selling for $250.

The Lee chamber uses the annual event to recognize some of its top citizens and organizations. The Lifetime Achievement Award is the top honor. Previous winners include Jack Miller, Mary Wilson, Robert A. Clay, Opal Cannon, Jonathan W. Fox Sr., R.S. Boney and J.M. Rhodes.

"We need your help as chamber members in selecting these deserving individuals," Barbosa said. She said the person must live or serve in Lee County and not be an elected official or a member of the chamber board.

Those making nominations should include information on accomplishments from the past five years. Nominees are needed by Sept. 7. For further information, call (229) 759-2422.
