— A roommate found a woman dead in their trailer at the Mimosa Trailer Park before 7 p.m. Tuesday, according to an Albany Police Department official.

Called to the scene first, Dougherty County EMS arrived at the 2200 block of Clark Avenue, Lot B-31, examined the body of a middle-aged woman and called police, APD spokeswoman Phyllis Banks said late Tuesday night.

“After EMS called APD, they found a white woman deceased inside the home,” Banks said. “We are not releasing the manner of death.”

Banks also said police would not release the name of the deceased until next of kin is notified. Because the investigation just began, Banks would say only that there was evidence of foul play in the mobile home.

Officers are questioning the roommate and other possible witnesses who may have seen the deceased the night before, Banks added.

Police squad cars, with blue emergency lights flashing, and a knot of police officers drew a crowd from the less-than-modest homes at the trailer park.

Tongues wagged at the scene as about 25 neighbors watched police collect evidence and question people.

One neighbor volunteered that she had seen a black man sitting on the deceased woman’s porch before police arrived. Other neighbors said they believed police should be looking for a white man in a black truck. The consensus from neighbors was that the woman was beaten to death.
