TIFTON -- Investigators from the state fire marshal's office have ruled an overnight blaze at a Tifton business was arson and are offering a reward for information on who may have set it.
Glenn Allen with the Georgia Insurance and Fire Safety Commissioner's Office says that the fire that partially burned Budget Car Sales on U.S. Highway 82 in Tifton last night was an act of arson.
"We've determined that the fire was intentionally set," Allen said. "The fire appears to have started on the exterior of the building in a near by trash receptacle and worked its way up the side of the building before getting into the rafters."
No one was inside the building at the time of the fire, which Allen estimated was set around 9 p.m. Firefighters quickly put out the fire, but not before thousands of dollars in damage was done.
Allen says Commissioner Ralph Hudgens is offering up to $10,000 for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the people responsible for setting the fire.
"It caused some damage, but it could've been much worse," Allen said. "Anyone with information should call our tipline. They can remain anonymous."
