Former President Carter is scheduled to teach Sunday School this Sunday at Maranatha Baptist Church in Plains.


Morningside United Methodist Church will welcome its new pastor, the Rev. Bill Swafford, Sunday. Sunday school begins at 9:45 a.m. and worship service begins at 11 a.m. The church is located at 121 S. Mock Road.

New Mt. Holder Baptist Church will host a Pre-Pastor’s Appreciation Musical entitled “My Pastor Can Sing” at 6 p.m. today. The church is located at 4524 Harris Road. The church will also conduct a 17th annual appreciation celebration for Bishop Johnny Gardner and Sister Mary Gardner on Aug. 29 and Sept. 3-7. The celebration will begin at 7 p.m. each of those dates.

The Inspirations from Bryson City, N.C., will be in concert at the Grand Theatre in Fitzgerald at 7 p.m. on Sept. 8. Tickets are $12 and will be sold at the door. For additional information, call (229) 326-8846.

The Evangelistic Tabernacle Family Outreach Center at 108 Pimento St. will host a deacon ordination service for Leroy Thomas at 3 p.m. Sunday. The speaker will be Dr. Henry M. Bown, pastor of the House of Prayer by Faith in Albany.

A benefit gospel sing is planned at 6 p.m. Saturday at Beulah Holiness Baptist Church on Massee Post Road in Adel. Performing will be the Georgia Boys of Sylvester, In His Name of Fitzgerald and the Happy Singers of Cordele. Proceeds will benefit cancer patient Elton Singletary.
