Theatre Albany sets auditions

ALBANY — Auditions for parts in the Theatre Albany performance of “Spider Island” will be conducted at 7 p.m. Sunday and Monday, theater Artistic Director Mark Costello said. The auditions will be held at the theater at 514 Pine Ave.

The setting for the classic thriller by Joseph Spalding is an abandoned lighthouse off the New England coast, where spinsters Abbie and Salem Mayo reside. Abbie believes her dead brother is living in the lighthouse tower, and Salem encourages her delusions. Coming into the household are Star Mayo and her friend, Pat Casey. They do not know of the two aunts, and the girls are soon plunged into a series of hair-raising events.

Characters include Abbie and Salem Mayo, two elderly sisters; Dullie Peabody, their hired girl; Star Mayo, their niece; Patsy, her girlfriend, and Meg Crosby, an old crone. Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script.

Rehearsals are set to begin in September with performances scheduled for Oct. 25-Nov. 4. For further information, call the theater at (229) 439-7193.
