VALDOSTA — The Valdosta Daily Times reported Wednesday that newly signed cornerback Greg Reid, who was kicked out of Florida State last month, won’t play this season for the Blazers after tearing his ACL in practice.

Reid, a native of Valdosta who signed with his hometown school after being cast off for multiple rules violations at Florida State, fell to the ground during the Blazers’ final preseason scrimmage while returning a punt. Reid’s injury was not believed to be serious at first, according to The Times, after he was seen jogging off the field with his teammates, despite having a heavily wrapped leg.

Reid, one of the most electric punt returners in the nation who was a little more than 300 yards from breaking NFL Hall-of-Famer Deion Sanders’ all-time record for punt return yards at Florida State, was expected to start in VSU’s season opener Saturday against Saginaw Valley State.
