ALBANY -- A Celebration of Life for Pastor Emeritus Reverend Dr. W. M. Davis, of the New Hope Missionary Baptist Church Fort Lauderdale, Florida will be held Saturday, September 1, 2012; at 11:00 A. M. in the sanctuary of his home church, Union Missionary Baptist Church 214 East Oglethorpe Blvd., Albany, Georgia 31705. The Reverend Dr. John A. Severson, pastor officiating. Interment will follow in Floral Memory Gardens.
A native of Parrott (Terrell County), Georgia, he was the son of the late Mr. Eugene and Mrs. Ethel Davis. He attended Helen Gurr Jr. High and Carver High School, Parrott, Georgia. A man who believed that ," Knowledge is Power," furthered his education by attending Bryant Theological Seminary Fitzgerald, Georgia, Georgia Baptist School of Religion Macon, Georgia, Extension - Morehouse School of Religion Freeburg, Tennessee Bachelor of Theology and Doctorate of Divinity.
A notable and dynamic Gospel Preacher who accepted Christ at an early age, at the Macedonia Baptist Church, Parrott, Georgia, later accepted his call to preach the word of God recognizing that he was "God's Chosen Vessel." He served as pastor to ten churches in Georgia and Florida to include Union Missionary Baptist Church, Beulah Missionary Baptist Church, Albany, Georgia, as well as, other churches in Lee, Worth, Terrell, and Crisp Counties. Too, he pastored First Baptist Missionary Baptist Church, Brownsville Miami, Florida, New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, Belle Glade, Florida, and New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, Fort Lauderdale, Florida, where retired from pastoring. Under his leadership many preachers received and accepted their calling into ministry, converts acknowledged and accepted Jesus Christ as their personal savior.
His church affiliations included Past Moderator & Moderator - at - Large Kissimmee Valley Baptist Association, Past Vice President of the State of Florida Convention, Progressive M & E State Convention of Florida, Bible Expositor, Activity Chairperson, Baptist Ministers Brotherhood and Adjacent Counties, and Former Pastor and Son of the House of Union Missionary Baptist Church, Albany, Georgia. Too, he served as Past Master of McBride Lodge #390 Prince Hall Free and Accepted Masons, Florida Jurisdiction.
Survivors: Wife of thirty seven beautiful years, Dorothy S. Davis, daughters, Jeanette (James) Coates, Miami, Florida , Betty J. Bryce, Albany, Georgia, Vivian Loretta Edwards, Waycross, Georgia; son, Wilson Monroe Davis, Albany, Georgia; brothers, Reverend Charles Davis, Jamaica, New York, Samuel ( Basil) Hill, Jacksonville, Florida, Jimmy Hill, Albany, Georgia; five sisters, Georgia (Clinton) Clark, Ethel (Joe) Walker, Mary Hill, Betty Lewis, all of Albany, Georgia, and Laura Banks, New Jersey; sisters-in law, Gloria Efford and Sarah Efford, Miami, Florida, brothers- in law, Hebert (Leila) Efford, Miami, Florida; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, a very special cousin, Mollie R. Blackshear, Huntsville, Alabama; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, many spiritual sons and daughters, and friends.
