BAINBRIDGE -- Joye Aldene "Skeet" Olive, 97, of Bainbridge, GA, passed away Thursday, August 30, 2012 at his residence.

A service of thanksgiving and celebration will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 1, 2012 at First Baptist Church with Rev. Paul Medley and Rev. Harold P. Burrell officiating. Interment will follow at Oak City Cemetery with Harold P. Burrell, Harold P. Burrell, Jr., James T. Burrell, Lewis M. Carter, Jr., L. Marcus Carter, III, Joshua L. McCullough, T. Hill Olive, Walter T. Burrell, Lewis M. Carter, IV, W. Harrison Carter, Carter A. McCullough, and Copeland L. McCullough serving as active pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the Tommy Wheeler Sunday School Class and the Saints Alive Senior Adult Choir.

The family will receive friends Friday, August 31, 2012, between the hours of 4:00 and 7:00 p.m. at the Olive Home, 1004 Culbreth Street, Bainbridge, GA 39819. "Mr. Skeet" was born June 2, 1915 in Bainbridge, GA, the son of Hill Watson Olive and Jadie Foster Olive. He graduated from Bainbridge High School. On December 24, 1938, he married Christelle Proctor. They were married for 71 years, until her death in 2010. During World War II, "Mr. Skeet" worked at the U.S. Naval Yard in Charleston, SC. After the war, he returned to Bainbridge, GA where he worked at Miller Hydro Company, until his retirement in 1988. He then worked at LMC in Donalsonville until 1998. "Mr. Skeet" was an active member of First Baptist Church up until his death. There he served as a deacon, chairman of deacons, Sunday school director, Sunday school teacher, trustee, and committee member. At the time of his death, he was an active member of the Tommy Wheeler Sunday School Class and the Saints Alive Senior Adult Choir.

Survivors include his daughters, Joy O. Burrell and her husband, Harold, of Bainbridge, GA and Betty O. Carter and her husband, Lewis, of Donalsonville, GA; his son, Thomas W. Olive of Bainbridge, GA; his six grandchildren, Hal Burrell and his wife, Kim, Jay Burrell and his wife, Carol, Marcus Carter and his wife, Katrice, Abbie Carter McCullough and her husband, Josh, Hill Olive, and Haleigh Olive; his eight great-grandchildren, Peyton Burrell, Walt Burrell, Jadie Burrell, Gracie Burrell, Lewis Carter, IV, Harrison Carter, Carter McCullough, and Copeland McCullough. He was preceded in death by his wife of 71 years, Christelle Proctor Olive.
