ALBANY — The Sherwood girls basketball team fell to 4-2 on the season after losing to Macon Area, 50-24, in the CFCA tip-off final.
Madison Walker and Melody McSwain each scored six points Saturday in the loss. The Lady Eagles now get set for a rivalry showdown Tuesday at Deerfield.
RANDOLPH-CLAY BOYS, GIRLS SWEEP MITCHELL COUNTY: Gary McCrae scored 18, Ryan Wiggins had 17 and Cornelius Bennett added 11 as the Red Devils improved to 2-1 with a 58-55 win against the Eagles on Saturday.
Jaquan Williams led Mitchell County (1-1) with 13, while Jermaine Hartsfield added 11 and Joquill Chester chipped in 10.
In the girls game, the Lady Red Devils (2-1) won in a rout, 66-45, behind 22 points from Kobi Thornton, 16 from Adrianna Blackmon and 12 from Kenekia Washington. Mitchell (0-2) was led by A’Miracle Jones and Keandra Mango, each of whom scored 10.
Next up, Randolph-Clay’s boys and girls host Baker County on Tuesday, while Mitchell gets back at it Tuesday as well at home against Lee County.
ALBANY BOYS BEAT TURNER, GIRLS FALL: Desmond Newberry led the way with 17 points, followed by Jamarcus Nunnally as the Indians (1-2) beat Turner, 81-77, for their first win.
The Squaws, meanwhile, lost, 61-30, to Turner to fall to 1-3. Brianna Williams led Albany in scoring, although her final stats weren’t available at press time.
