CAMILLA -- Frederick Leo "Rick" Bateman, Jr., 55, of Tallahassee, FL, died Monday, December 3, 2012, at Emory Hospital in Atlanta, GA.
Memorial services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 7, at Trinity United Methodist Church in Tallahassee, FL with Rev. Bill Proctor officiating.
The family will receive friends from 10 - 11 a.m. Friday, before services, at Trinity United Methodist Church.
Graveside funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, at Oakview Cemetery in Camilla, GA.
Born March 11, 1957 in Mitchell County, Mr. Bateman was the son of Freddie Bateman of Camilla, GA and Peggy Boutwell Carroll of Stark, FL. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church of Tallahassee, FL.
Rick will be remembered as a prominent trial attorney and advocate, both in the courtroom and before numerous governmental agencies. His law practice focused on complex business litigation, where he had a reputation as zealous counsel second to none. Before legislative bodies, Rick was a political force in representing the interests of the development community. After completing law school at the University of Florida, Rick began practicing law in Orlando, Florida. In the early years of his practice, he relocated to Tallahassee. At the time of his death, Rick was affiliated with the Business Trial Group of Morgan & Morgan as well as the principal of the Bateman Harden law office.
Rick was an active member of the Executive Committee of the Greater Tallahassee Chamber of Commerce and the Economic Development Council of Leon County as well as the Leon County Citizens Charter Review Committee.
Rick was active in philanthropic activities, his favorite charity was the Special Olympics.
Survivors include two daughters, Madison Bateman of Orlando, FL and Callie Bateman of Tallahassee, FL; his father, Freddie Bateman and wife, Mary Lynn, of Camilla; his mother, Peggy Boutwell Carroll and husband, Levon, of Stark, FL; five brothers, Steve Bateman and wife, Corrie, of Whitehall, MT, Todd Bateman and wife, Sonya, of Alapaha, GA, Bert Crosson and wife, Haley, of Tifton, GA, Luke Crosson and wife, LeeAnn, of Dawson, GA, and Lynn Crosson and wife, Mallory, of Albany, GA; one sister, Carrie McLendon and husband, Jim, of Cornelia, GA; a cousin and business partner, Paul Harden of Jacksonville, FL.; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 6- 8 p.m. Thursday, December 6 at Parker-Bramlett Funeral Home in Camilla, GA.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Special Olympics or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
