Identity theft town hall topic

ALBANY — Low-tech methods used to steal identities and lead to money theft or credit destruction are as common as the high-tech methods used by crooks.

Every 3.5 seconds, someone’s identity is stolen either by computer, theft of a wallet or purse, or even by a thief digging through the trash for information, Albany City Commissioner Ivey Hines said in a town hall notice.

Hines and Albany Police Chief John Proctor plan to let people know how to hold identity-theft risk down at a 10 a.m. Saturday town hall and community chat in the Law Enforcement Center at 201 W. Oglethorpe Blvd.
