Man robbed, beaten near Cromartie Beach

ALBANY, Ga. — A man is being treated for injuries after being beaten during a robbery and attempted shooting on Beachview Drive.

Albany Police Department spokeswoman Phyllis Banks said that Richard Phillips, 55, was robbed at gunpoint by a man Phillips told police jumped him as he was walking home near the 2500 block of Beachview Drive.

Phillips said the man forced him onto the ground and proceeded to strike him several times in the head with an unknown handgun. Banks said the suspect fired one shot near the victim's head but missed, with the bullet striking the ground.

A wallet with an unknown amount of money was taken, and police have yet to arrest the suspect. The suspect is believed to be a man, wearing all black, standing between 5-feet, 7-inches and 5-feet, 8-inches tall. He is believed to be armed with a handgun.

Likely only because he is a poor shot when the gun is turned sideways, Kaos. If he took a shot at the dude victim while on the ground, I would have to say that the part of the story "believed to be armed with a handgun" may just be accurate, although the shot fortunately wasn't.
