Middle District collects $2.45M

MACON — In criminal and civil actions, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Georgia collected $2,459,970 in cash and had forfeited to it $1.78 million in guns, cars, real estate and other hard assets, according to a press release from the office.

In the 50 states, U.S. Attorney’s offices collected $13.1 billion in criminal and civil actions. The total collected from criminals racked up $3.035 billion in restitution, fines and felony assessments. Each office uses a “Crime Victim’s Fund” to distribute money to state victim compensation and victim assistance programs.

“During this time of economic recovery, these collections are more important than ever,” said U.S. Attorney for the Middle District Michael J. Moore. “We will continue to hold accountable those who seek to profit from their illegal activities.”
